This is Canada’s first capital, a city built from stone cut by hand two hundred years ago and stacked into buildings that are still standing, still working, still beautiful. Fort Henry watches the harbour the way it always has. Murney Tower holds the shoreline. They come to help, and to heal. Kingston Health Sciences Centre draws travel nurses and locum physicians from across the country — twelve-week rotations, sixteen-week postings, people who spend their days taking care of strangers and deserve to come home to somewhere that’s actually theirs. We built a medical stays page just for them, because after a twelve-hour shift, in-suite laundry isn’t a luxury. It’s the whole point.

They come for work. Postings at CFB Kingston. Contracts at RMC and Queen’s. Government offices, tech firms, trades. Professionals on assignment who know the particular loneliness of a business hotel after the third week — and people relocating outright, living between houses, needing a soft place to land while the paperwork catches up. International students and visiting academics arrive for a semester and need a base worth thinking in.

They come for each other. For a daughter’s graduation. A friend’s wedding. A grandmother’s ninetieth. A hospital visit nobody planned. The reasons people travel to family are rarely simple, and a suite with a kitchen and a door that closes gives those weeks room to breathe.

And they come for the pleasure of it. The food — Kingston has more restaurants per capita than almost anywhere in the country, most of them packed along Princess Street a few minutes from our front doors. The music — blues in the square in August, buskers in July, a brand-new festival in September. The theatre at the Grand, the concerts and Frontenacs hockey at Slush Puppie Place on Tragically Hip Way (yes, that’s the real street name — this is the Hip’s hometown, and the city has never gotten over it, nor should it). The sailing — Portsmouth Olympic Harbour hosted the Olympics in ’76 and still fills with sails every August. The 1000 Islands boat tours leaving from the waterfront all season, and Prince Edward County’s wineries and Sandbanks’ beaches ninety minutes west.

Different reasons. Same city. And the same question when they get here: where do I actually stay?

Your three options, honestly

A hotel. Fine for a weekend. By week three you know the elevator, you know the breakfast buffet, and you’re eating restaurant dinners every night because there’s no kitchen. Over 90 nights, the room plus restaurants easily passes $18,000. The room is fine. It’s always fine. It’s also never yours.

A long-term Airbnb. Sometimes it works. But you’re betting months of your life on photographs, and there’s no one to call when the Wi-Fi dies during your Tuesday meeting. Plenty of Kingston listings are student housing in disguise — and the good ones often won’t take a 60-night booking at all.

An aparthotel. An apartment that runs like a hotel — here’s the full explanation if the word is new to you. The kitchen is yours. The laundry is yours. The billing is monthly, and we invoice companies and agencies directly. What it actually costs

• The Waterfront Trail — 8 km along Lake Ontario, starting minutes from your door

Choose your building by where you want your mornings to happen:

• The Colby House — our largest building, on Queen Street, nine minutes from the water. A one bedroom for one person and their routines; a one bedroom + den with a desk in the den — a real home office; a two bedroom with a harvest table built for dinners in; or the multi-level three bedroom with its own terrace, for the whole family and the whole occasion.
• The Craftsman House — stripped to its limestone and rebuilt with care, original brick in the kitchen, steps from Princess Street.
• The McRae House — named for a Kingston wholesale company founded in 1854, and twelve minutes on foot from Grant Hall. The right address for a semester.
• The Sexton House — directly on Skeleton Park, original wood beams overhead. The park earned that name honestly — it was Kingston’s first cemetery, opened in 1809 — and today it’s old trees, morning light, and one of the best free arts festivals in the country every June.

What’s on between now and October

Stay a month and the city will keep handing you reasons to walk out the door. The calendar from here to Homecoming — all of it on foot from a Dwell suite:

July — the Kingston Buskers Rendezvous fills Princess Street with performers from around the world, and Movies in the Square runs free films under the open sky every Thursday evening. The 1000 Islands boat tours are in full season on the waterfront.

August — the Limestone City Blues Festival, August 7–9, puts three days of live blues on the Market Square main stage — an 8-minute walk from the Colby House. Kingston Heritage Days follows August 20–22, and the CORK Olympic Regatta fills Portsmouth Olympic Harbour with sails, the way it has since the ’76 Games.

September — Queen’s wakes back up for Frosh Week, and on September 12 the RoadTrip Music Festival takes over Princess Street — steps from the Sexton House.

October — Thanksgiving weekend (October 12) is peak colour in the 1000 Islands and Prince Edward County, both easy day trips. And then the big one: Queen’s Homecoming, October 16–18 — the 100th anniversary. Alumni from every decade, all at once. The city will be full. If you’re planning to be here for it, book early. Genuinely.

How long can I stay?

The McRae House is a 12-minute walk from Grant Hall. All four buildings are within 18 minutes of campus on foot.

All four suites are within 15 minutes of KHSC by car. Ask us and we’ll confirm walking distance from a specific building.

Is parking available?

Is an aparthotel cheaper than a hotel for a long stay?
Over 30 nights or more — yes, significantly. The monthly rate beats nightly hotel pricing, and the kitchen erases months of restaurant bills.
